Coins lay scattered across the grass and stones beside an old, overturned sack.
LYRIA picked one up and turned it between her fingers.
She still had no idea what it was worth. But after everything she'd been through to get this far, she hoped it would at least buy her something useful.
The merchant watched her approach his stall.
He was an enormous reptilian creature with grey scales and the expression of someone who had watched thousands of adventurers make the same mistakes.
LYRIA set her coins on the counter.
The merchant examined her gear, then took a pair of protective bracers from his stall.
“First upgrade?”
LYRIA nodded.
“These should keep you alive.”
“Should?”
He didn't answer.
LYRIA sighed, took the bracers, and walked away.
A little later, she reached a ridge.
An immense landscape opened before her: mountains rising above the clouds, distant cities, and islands suspended in the sky.
For a moment, she stood perfectly still.
She had collected her first rewards and improved her equipment.
Yet, looking out at that horizon, she realized how little she had seen.
Level 08.
It was only the beginning.

Le monete erano sparse tra l'erba e le pietre, accanto a un vecchio sacco rovesciato.
LYRIA ne raccolse una, rigirandola tra le dita.
Non sapeva ancora quanto valesse. Ma dopo tutto quello che aveva passato per arrivare fin lì, sperava almeno che bastasse per comprare qualcosa di utile.
Il mercante la osservò avvicinarsi al banco.
Era un rettiliano enorme, con scaglie grigie e un'espressione che sembrava aver visto migliaia di avventurieri commettere gli stessi errori.
LYRIA posò le monete davanti a lui.
Il mercante esaminò il suo equipaggiamento, poi prese dal banco un paio di bracciali di protezione.
«Primo aggiornamento?»
LYRIA annuì.
«Questi dovrebbero tenerti in vita.»
«Dovrebbero?»
Lui non rispose.
LYRIA sospirò, prese i bracciali e si allontanò.
Poco dopo raggiunse un'altura.
Davanti a lei si apriva un panorama immenso: montagne oltre le nuvole, città lontane e isole sospese nel cielo.
Per qualche istante rimase immobile.
Aveva raccolto le sue prime ricompense e migliorato il suo equipaggiamento.
Eppure, osservando quell'orizzonte, capì quanto poco avesse ancora visto.

Era soltanto l'inizio.

The city was bustling with adventurers.
Names and levels floated above their heads. Some were far more experienced than LYRIA; others looked as though they had only just arrived.
She wandered through the market, curious about every stall and alleyway.
Then something caught her eye.
A rolled-up parchment was sticking out from beneath the worn cover of an old cart.
“Wait… what's this doing here?”
She crouched and carefully pulled it free.
It was a yellowed, weather-beaten map. Mountains, forests, ancient structures, and places LYRIA had never seen covered its surface.
But one detail stood out above all the others.
A red X.
No directions. No explanation.
LYRIA studied the mark for a few seconds.
Then she smiled.
“Well… surely this isn't an invitation to get myself into trouble.”
She carefully folded the map.
Of course, she'd already decided to follow it.

La città brulicava di avventurieri.
Sopra le loro teste fluttuavano nomi e livelli. Alcuni erano molto più esperti di LYRIA, altri sembravano appena arrivati.
Lei attraversava il mercato guardandosi intorno, incuriosita da ogni bancarella e da ogni vicolo.
Poi qualcosa attirò la sua attenzione.
Sotto il telo consumato di un vecchio carro spuntava un rotolo di pergamena.
«Aspetta… e questo che ci fa qui?»
Si chinò e lo estrasse con cautela.
Era una mappa ingiallita, segnata dal tempo. Raffigurava montagne, foreste, antiche costruzioni e luoghi che LYRIA non aveva mai visto.
Ma un dettaglio la colpì più di tutti.
Una X rossa.
Nessuna indicazione. Nessuna spiegazione.
LYRIA osservò il simbolo per qualche secondo.
Poi sorrise.
«Beh… non sarà mica un invito a mettermi nei guai.»
Ripiegò la mappa con cura.
Naturalmente, aveva già deciso di seguirla.

LYRIA checked the old parchment once again.
The red X marked a place beyond the mountains, far from the roads traveled by other adventurers.
She had followed the route for hours, crossing ruins and forgotten paths until she reached a ridge.
An immense valley stretched before her, cut through by waterfalls and bridges hanging over the void.
In the distance, a city rose among the clouds.
LYRIA compared the landscape with the map.
The spot marked by the X was right there.
She took a step forward.
A red warning appeared before her eyes.

Unexplored Territory — Data Not Available.
“Out of the map?”
She looked up.
The sky above the city began to warp. A violet spiral opened among the clouds, while the floating structures seemed to bend toward its center.
LYRIA instinctively stepped back.
This wasn't simply unexplored territory.
Something out there should not have existed.
She tightened her grip on the parchment.
“This… shouldn't be possible.”

LYRIA controllò ancora una volta la vecchia pergamena.
La X rossa indicava un luogo oltre le montagne, lontano dalle strade percorse dagli altri avventurieri.

Alzò lo sguardo.
Il cielo sopra la città cominciò a deformarsi. Una spirale viola si aprì tra le nuvole, mentre le strutture sospese sembravano piegarsi verso il suo centro.
LYRIA indietreggiò istintivamente.
Non era un semplice territorio inesplorato.
Qualcosa, laggiù, non avrebbe dovuto esistere.
Strinse la pergamena tra le dita.

At first, it seemed like nothing more than an error.
A tremor in the air. A distant sound, like a muffled voice behind a wall.
Then the sky fractured.
A luminous rift opened before LYRIA, streaked with thousands of violet fragments. Beyond the barrier stood a girl with light-colored hair.
She didn't look like an enemy.
She looked frightened.
The girl raised a hand, as though trying to reach her.
LYRIA did the same.
For an instant, their fingertips seemed almost to touch through the light.
Then something changed.
The girl's figure began to dissolve into tiny digital fragments.
LYRIA reached out, trying in vain to hold on to her.
“Wait!”
But the girl was already gone.
Silence returned all at once.
A tiny violet crystal hovered above LYRIA's palm, pulsing with light.
She watched it without moving.
She didn't know who the girl was.
She didn't know where she had come from.
And most of all, she didn't know why, for a single moment, she had felt as though someone had been searching for her specifically.
Signal lost.

Un tremolio nell'aria. Un rumore distante, come una voce soffocata dietro una parete.
Poi il cielo si spezzò.
Davanti a LYRIA si aprì una frattura luminosa, attraversata da migliaia di frammenti viola. Oltre quella barriera apparve una ragazza dai capelli chiari.
Non sembrava un nemico.
Sembrava spaventata.
La ragazza sollevò una mano, come se cercasse di raggiungerla.
LYRIA fece lo stesso.
Per un istante, le loro dita sembrarono sfiorarsi attraverso la luce.
Poi qualcosa cambiò.
La figura cominciò a dissolversi in piccoli frammenti digitali.
LYRIA tese il braccio, cercando inutilmente di trattenerla.
«Aspetta!»
Ma la ragazza era già scomparsa.
Il silenzio tornò improvvisamente.
Sopra il palmo di LYRIA fluttuava un minuscolo cristallo viola, pulsante di luce.
Lo osservò senza muoversi.
Non sapeva chi fosse quella ragazza.
Non sapeva da dove venisse.
E soprattutto non sapeva perché, per un solo istante, avesse avuto la sensazione che qualcuno stesse cercando proprio lei.
Signal lost.
